Cyclists of Malaysia
Ranjit
Ranjit is working as a full time car washer using his utility bike. His bike is imported from India, and you wouldn't be able to find a bike like this here, Ranjit shared. He covers several neighborhoods in TTDI and has close relationship with many locals in the area. If he needs, he will bring his bicycle to Sunway Damansara to get parts for his bicycle.
Sadly, Ranjit has difficulty finding properties to rent in the area as landlords are reluctant to rent to "car washers." He lives together with fellow colleagues in a shoplot in TTDI.
Kak Guning
Kak Guning rides a second hand bicycle to work. It was passed down to her by the migrant community here when she came over to KL from Indonesia.
She works at a vegetarian restaurant at Damansara Jaya. After work, there would be many left over cardboard boxes from the raw food supplies. She collects them to be sent to Kayu Ara for recycling and gets some money. She ties down the cardboard to a wider back rack on her bike, but it becomes abit heavy, so she walks her bike to Kayu Ara.
Rapon & Yakob
Meet cycling commuters Rapon & Yacob from Bangladesh. They work with MBPJ to maintain the parks and landscape in our area. They live at SS2 and ride around the vicinity for their work.
For them the bicycle is an essential way to get around. They got their bikes for free when they got here, probably passed down to them by their own community. If there are any problems with their bicycles, they know how to fix and maintain it themselves.
I got to stop them for an Interview before the lockdown.
Christy
Christy is a foodpanda delivery rider. She delivers food and items around the SS2 shophouses with her E-Bike. SS2 can get congested quite often but she doesnt have to worry about that as she swifts through traffic with her bike, making her deliveries more efficient. She rides a @fiidoebike E-Bike. She says she rides a bike because she didn’t get a car driving license. Most of her orders are within the vicinity of SS2 but quite rarely she has to deliver across the LDP highway. She says she can still manage that no problem, you just need to alert and becareful. During the MCO she had a lot more orders, now it has slowed down.
